Sylvannah Henderson, 92 of La Center, passed away at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Hunter Acers
Nursing Home in Sikeston, Missouri.
Mrs. Henderson was a graduate of Lincoln Institute in Lincoln Ridge, Kentucky. She was a boarding student and
lived with the Whitney Young family, Mr. & Mrs. Young were teachers at the institute. Their son, Whitney Young,
Jr. was an educator and leader in the Kentucky civil rights movement. She was a homemaker and lived a simple
life, taking care of her family and seeing after other people thourgh the years.. She will be missed by many.
She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in LaCenter.
Mrs. Henderson is survived by one son, Justin Henderson (Sarah Ware) of La Center, and one grandson,
Whitney Eskridge of Metropolis, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Henderson, and one son, Robert Randel Wingo. Her parents
were Tim Blanks and Lizzie Jenkins Blanks.
Graveside services were conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 15, at Henderson Cemetery with Rev. Hulon
Warren officiating. Visitation was from 5:00 & 8:00 Friday evening at Jones Funeral Home of LaCenter.
Memorial Gifts may be made in her name to the Fund for Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Mayo Clinic, PO Box
450, Albert Lea, MN 86007-9849.

Are prayers are with you in your time of sorrow.Knowing that you will
miss her more than anything. She is in the hands of the Lord and for
